Winchester Chair Yoga Classes

If you’ve noticed you don’t move quite as much as you used to, or if getting up and down from the floor feels a bit tricky, Chair Yoga could be just what you’re looking for.
Gentle, supportive, and fun, it’s a chance to move your body, lift your spirits, and enjoy some time for yourself in a friendly, welcoming group.

This class is just what you have been waiting for!!

What is Chair Yoga?

Chair Yoga is a wonderfully accessible form of movement that can be done while sitting in a chair, or by using the chair for support while standing and balancing. It’s a gentle yet effective way to build strength, improve mobility, and boost wellbeing — without needing to get down on the floor.

I absolutely love teaching Chair Yoga because it’s not only beneficial, but also full of fun. Classes are light-hearted, gently energising, and always sprinkled with smiles. We focus on what you can do, not what you can’t. Every movement can be adapted to suit your body, so you’ll always have the choice to make the practice as easy or as challenging as feels right for you.

Why Choose Chair Yoga?

As we get older, our joints may feel stiffer, our balance a little less steady, and our bodies not quite as free as before. It’s easy to think this is just the way things have to be — but movement can make all the difference. By gently waking up the body, Chair Yoga can help maintain strength, mobility and confidence in everyday life.  Just as importantly, it’s a space to connect, share a laugh, and feel good.

With regular practice, Chair Yoga can help you to:

  • Build and maintain strength
  • Improve balance and stability
  • Reduce stress and promote relaxation
  • Boost circulation and energy
  • Increase flexibility and mobility
  • Ease stiffness in the joints

A Class with Community

One of the things I hear most often from students is that my classes feel friendly, welcoming, and supportive. Chair Yoga is no different. You won’t feel like just another face in the crowd — everyone knows each other’s names, there’s always time for a chat, and you’ll find yourself part of a warm, encouraging community.

What to Expect

We usually begin by taking a moment to arrive, breathe and bring our attention into the present – leaving behind the busyness of the day. From there we move through a sequence of seated and standing movements, gradually waking up the body, easing stiffness and building a little heat and energy.

Every class includes options so you can adapt the movements to your needs. We end with a short relaxation to allow your body and mind to settle, leaving you feeling refreshed and calm.

Suitable for all ages

Sarah’s chair yoga is great, suitable for anyone, whether you have ever done any form of yoga or none, and Sarah makes it fun too.

She’s not as serious as some yoga teachers I’ve known, and always says “only do what your body wants to, listen to your body 😊”

For the last two years I have attended “Chair Yoga” at Twyford Community Center. Almost immediately I felt the benefit  of the class.  My balance has improved my legs strengthen with the exercises we do each week.  Sarah makes it fun, we always have a laugh which in itself makes it a fun place to be but all the time working different muscles.  Sarah explains which muscles benefit from the various exercises she teaches us.

Why Not Give it a Try?

Everyone can benefit from yoga, whether on the mat or on the chair. Chair Yoga is especially wonderful if you’d like to move more, feel steadier on your feet, or simply enjoy a gentle, uplifting way to exercise.

Most of all, it’s about more than movement — it’s about friendship, laughter, and feeling part of something. You may surprise yourself with what your body can do, and you’ll definitely leave with a smile.

Come along, give it a go, and see how good you feel.
